In Summer 2009, Kathy successfully wrote the narrative for a 6-week summer youth stimulus grant that funded Campus Kids, a University of Nevada pilot program that brought 240 kids from our local Boys & Girls Club to live a slice of university life. She implemented the program as director, and led 9 college students and 8 teen agers to provide mentoring and leadership to kids from grades 3 through 8. Campus Kids spent 4 days touring the campus, writing in journals, taking photos, producing marketing posters, selling lemonade, and hearing 8 college-student presentations on the value of education. Kids learned that they have the right to go to college, that knowledge is power, and that education is a path of choice worth pursuing. www.unrcampuskids.org
